Curtains Call
Beleaguered, and wary
Beset in a haze
Self-hatred and loathing
Befuddled by rage
Smitten and taken
By the thoughts of dismay
Still still there he stood
Inside his own cage
The demons and devils
They danced and they played
Playing tricks on his mind
But he never swayed
He fought them all off
As if it was all just a game
An actor at play
Upon a grandiose stage
The audience laughed
They sometimes held their breath
Each act, acted out
At the director’s request
But then came the final
That last true curtain call
And the laughter went silent
Because they knew they missed all of it all.
The lesson was given
But everyone chose to forget
The lights all went dim
And they went back to their beds.
