Why were there no blacks in the Godfather movie, when the areas in New York are now black?

You answered your own question while asking it. Some of those areas might be black owned NOW but it wasn't at the time when Godfather was made or takes place, and besides the focus is on the various italian families that combined controlled most of the city.
