Child of the light
The darkness of space was suddenly disrupted for a moment as the Corellian Freighter dropped from hyperspace, its old sublight engines whining as the ship reverted into normal space. silent for a moment before it began to drift into a turn towards the planet of Sahan.
The Captain of the freighter stood up from where he had been sitting in the cockpit's bulky pilot seat, he began to stretch and let out a sigh of relief as he felt his tired muscles feel some relief after so many hours of Sat at the freighters control.
He turned towards the door that separated the cockpit and the rest of the freighter, the door opened with a whooshing sound as the locks disengaged and slid to one side and exposed the small passageway beyond.
It was time to let his only passenger on this journey know that they had reverted to normal space and the journey was nearly at an end.
He moved through the doorway and made his way into what passed as passenger's quarters. nothing more than a small curved seating area and a table to eat at.
it was not uncommon for people to book transport on Stock light freighters, but usually, for reasons that did not need to be asked if the money was good enough to buy that level of don't ask, don't tell.
He casually eyed his passenger as he sat at the small table, a data pad sitting on the table, the screen dark indicating that it was either switched off or was just put into sleep mode.
The name his passenger had given was Christie, he was a tall human in his mid 30's, and had claimed in passing conversation that he was from the planet Corellia, but that had been a long time ago.
whether that was true or not, one look into the man's eyes showed a far greater level of knowledge and a somewhat haunting look that showed more than anyone should have ever seen.
But all that aside, the was never good business to ask too many questions when accepting Passengers rather than cargo and since the formation of the Empire, it had become more difficult for an entrepreneur like himself to make any real profit treading the space lanes.
As if suddenly waking from some sort of dream or lost in deep thought Christie looked up from where he was sitting and turned his head to look towards where the Freighter captain was stood
he watched his passenger blink several times before he spoke, the man's voice exuding a calm authority to it as he did.
"Have we arrived? Captain"
he asked curiously as he shifted in the seat, his attention now fully back in the moment as he let his right hand come down to rest against his leg and his other hand come up to rest against his chin as he now focussed fully on the captain of the freighter.
The other man gave Christie another once over as they were now focused on each other.
"Yes, we have just jumped out of hyperspace and should make planet fall, in about 20 or 30 minutes, locals being agreeable or not" he responded and gave a small chuckle at the thought of past troubles with space traffic controllers who were having a bad day and wanted to pass that onto someone else.
Christie nodded in acknowledgement before speaking once more, reaching into the inside of his dark shirt and pulling a bag that made a clinking sound to indicate something inside the bag.
The movement and bag made the Captain's eyes sparkle for a moment, now knowing he was going to receive the rest of his payment, something that was not always going to be guaranteed to happen.
"your credits, Captain," Christie said and offered the bag to him.
The Captain moved from the door and crossed the room and took the bag gratefully, he would check once he was back in the cockpit, but would not be rude and do so right now,
"Thank you" he offered to his passenger in return and then half turned back towards the passageway he had come through.
"I will see you when we are on the ground then" were the last words spoken between them as the captain moved away and back to the freighters controls and begin their descent onto the planet of Sahan,
Christie sat back in the bench seat and tried to relax, his mind struggling to focus on what he had been tasked to do. this mission, this new planet, why had the force called him to leave his hiding place. the Jedi had long since been wiped out by the rise of Emperor Palpatine and his lapdog Darth Vader.
The thoughts swirling over and over in his mind, Why did the force call to him, after all this time? what or who needed his? such pain and sorrow focussed on the call in the darkness
Coming to him when he was deep in meditation, thoughts of his old Master came back to him, long dead and gone, as were all the Jedi Knights betrayed and struck down by their former Allies, the Republic becoming the Alliance and the great purge almost extinguished there fire from the Galaxy.
He stood quickly and tried to force the thoughts of the past from his mind, the Force had called him from his exile and he could not ignore its call. When he was calm he would find the guidance he needed to complete this task that had been set before him.
Whether to find something or someone, he would follow the path set before him, the force his guide, a voice he had to rely upon. his mind would otherwise be lost to all the confusion and pain of the past.
