Star Trek didn`t really cover same sex relationships very much, but I remember this episode sending a powerful message back in the day.

There was an episode in STNG that was about a race of asexual beings that were going through societal unrest because some chose to have gender either male or female. Commander Riker became involved with one of these gendered aliens.

Also in STNG when Beverly was in love with Odan, the Trill Mediator and then later on she continues the love affair with Riker(as the host to the Trill).
However, she breaks it off when a female host comes onboard the Enterprise.
The episode is The Host.
