Legends on Netflix

Anyone watched it. I've just started.

I have an old school friend. We were close ages 14 through 20. He'd left school and joined Her Majesty's Customs and Revenue. I thought he had just a typical office job. He bought a house, has nice girlfriend etc.

Then. He disappeared. Totally off the radar, might turn up at weddings or Christmas drinks but otherwise "Working away".

We just naturally over a year or so completely lost contact especially as I was working in London by then , married etc.

Roll on a few years. We had my son I remember he's in a pushchair and in a wheelchair coming towards me was this guy. He'd "had a fall". Honestly he was a mess, both legs shattered etc. pelvis in bits. We never really became close friends again. He was - different, very different. Reserved. The dangerous side he'd always had seemed closer to the surface and he was a very angry man.

Sixteen years ago my wife bumped into him and invited him around for our 25th celebration. He'd been an usher at the wedding after all. At that he dropped the bombshell he had a brain tumour. But he had aggressive treatment and it has been not a problem since . We catch up once a year or so. He still has an awful limp from the fall and lots of operations etc to fix shit with his hips. He got married late, to a nurse he kept during his cancer treatment, has a teenage kid still at home.

I bumped into him yesterday in our local shopping centre. I said I had started watching Legends. He just said "It was never like that". We had a coffee and longest conversation we've had in decades. He was in the drug investigation team in the 90s. The series is based on his team. The fall was at a port in a stake out and he was lucky to survive.

My whole view of him and his life changed yesterday. He said relatively little detail but I see something in him about how it must have affected him.
