The beautiful journey of Stranger Things
Note: This post contains spoilers. So, proceed accordingly.
I finally finished Stranger Things. Yes! I binge-watched the show. Today, a few hours ago, I fished the fourth season. This show had been in my watchlist for a very long time. The thing is, in the mid-2010s, Narcos was dominating the TV entertainment. It was the most discussed TV show on the web then. I like crime dramas a lot, and the story of Pablo Escobar wasn't something to be missed at all. As a result, I devoted more time to Narcos and completely missed this wonder. I am surprised that I never came across anyone who discussed this show with me, neither on the web nor at my workplace then.
As much as I find crime dramas intriguing, there's another thing that I have a similar fondness for. The 80s era! The era of a new wave of music, fashion, video games, technology, etc. Stranger Things is set in the 80s. The best part is the soundtracks that were featured in the show. All of them just pull you back into the beautiful world of the 80s. Pure nostalgia! There's definitely something powerful about the 80s that hits you right here 🩷. Who can forget the most-watched moment from the show? I am referring to the sequence where Dustin and Suzie sang Never Ending Story before Suzie shared Planck's code.
Dustin is my most favourite character from the show. Simply because he reminds me of myself. Inquisitive, always trying to discern things by himself, tech savvy, and understood fictional realms that most wouldn't be able to comprehend. Well, he found Suzie. I am waiting for my Suzie to date. I'll never forget:
You like my teeth. Ggggrrrrrr!!!
The bond of the party is worth watching. The party grew from 4 (Will, Mike, Dustin, and Lucas) to 6 (El and Max) and then to 10 (if you include Steve, Robin, Nancy, Erica, and Suzie). Well, Erica cannot be considered as a member of the party because she had her girl gang, but she helped the party in Seasons 3 and 4. One thing I liked about Erica is that she is intelligent, witty, and savage. Suzie may have appeared only a few times, but all those moments are unforgettable. Especially the one I mentioned above. The character who was a part of the show for only one season but left the viewers with an everlasting impact was Eddie. He died during the battle with Vecna. I wish he was a part of the team until the end. His musical performance to lure the monstrous bats was amazing. He played Metallica's track. Metallica! 🤘😈 I hope Eddie is commemorated as the hero of Hawkins when the show ends.
El's journey from being friends with the party to remembering the past is simply awesome. She becomes Mike's girlfriend, finds her mother and lab sister, becomes good friends with Max, and is adopted by Chief Hopper (who sees her late daughter in her) and becomes the saviour of the town. Dr. Brenner, until the end, wanted to mould her according to his wishes. He wanted to keep her as his lab rat. I am glad that he died. Dr. Owens respected El's wishes. He wanted her to harness her powers to the maximum limit but did not want her to be a lab rat.
The show capitalised on the Cold War scenario too. Most 80s movies and shows were based on the Cold War theme. The 80s was the last decade of the Cold War between the USSR and the USA. As usual, the Soviets were portrayed as the troublemakers in this one too. In reality, who turned out to be the real culprit? The whole world knows it now, but that's a different debate altogether. I like how skills of the Murray character were used in the show. He was fluent in Russian, a great researcher, counsellor and good sidekick.
I liked the way how the creators of the show linked everything in Season 4 to an enemy that was unknown from Season 1, i.e., Vecna. The monster whom El defeated a long time ago. The one turned the unknown realm into a world full of violent and bloodthirsty creatures. Unknowingly, El unlocked the gate to the unknown realm during the regular experiments, and that unleashed havoc on the town of Hawkins.
Vecna targeted so many individuals of the town, but the most affected by him are Will and El. The others were his victims and died in a gruesome way. He may have been defeated in season 4, but the end of season 4 does show that he returns stronger and with more powers. Now, watching him yield to El would be utterly delightful. Also, I hope Max recovers and joins her friends again. I hope they explain how El revived Max's heartbeat. Also, I would like to see El reunite with her biological mother once everything is over.
This happens rarely—that I fall for any on-screen beauty—but Winona Ryder is simply awesome in this series. There are no mature scenes in the show. Yet, I am smitten by her beauty. She's 53 at the moment, and I am in my mid-30s. Yet, I wouldn't mind dating her. Hop finally wins her heart in the end. Trust me, if I met Winona Ryder in real life, I'd have palpitations*.
The final season/season 5 will be released in three volumes. Volume 1 starts on November 26, volume 2 on December 25 (on Christmas), and volume 3 (i.e., the finale) on New Year's Eve. Some good dates the creators have chosen for the final season of the show.
Are you a fan of this series too?

*All of this will happen only if Winona Ryder is a Jew who supports the "Free Palestine" movement. I'll have no feelings for her if she's a Zionist who supports the genocide of Palestinians. Well, no one has ever heard her supporting Israel and appreciating the IDF's actions. Therefore, it would be unfair to jump to conclusions.
