Chicago is the most underrated musical

Chicago is hands down the most underrated musical of all time. Everything from the acting to the plot to the visuals (costumes, scene transitions, etc.) to, of course, the music, was so well executed…yet for whatever reason, it just got popular for a year or so in the 2000s and then just…died. No one ever talks about it anymore, you never hear the music, and even the actors are hardly ever in any movies anymore.

Yes, it won several Oscars, which is great, which might make you argue that it isn’t underrated…but people still talk about the Wizard of Oz, Les Miserables, and Grease today. Not Chicago though. “Somewhere over the Rainbow” is still considered a timeless classic today (and rightly so), covered by so many musicians…but “Razzle Dazzle” isn’t.

Not to mention that the title hardly tells you anything about it. Just where it takes place, which isn’t all that important to the plot anyway. So I like that it’s mysterious in that way. I’ll avoid saying anything else as to prevent spoilers (I’m hoping there are some people who haven’t seen it and might be intrigued by this review and will watch it on Hulu), but if you watch this musical and don’t like it, then you either just don’t like musicals or you have no taste. #sorrynotsorry

I’m also curious what the Broadway production is like. The way the scene changes happen in the film are outstanding, and I find it hard to imagine how this could be done effectively in a live show.

How about you? What do you think is the most underrated musical?
I really wish I lived near an area where I would have the opportunity to watch a musical. I love the excitement and energy of a well produced production. You would think that a famous and historical town like Palm Springs would have an active theatre group, (Years ago we did but the Palm Springs follies closed some time ago.

I know for a fact the audience is available, we just need the theatre and a group of actors.
