To those of you who enjoy horror films

What is it about them that you enjoy? Do you actually find them scary?

I've watched plenty but I just don't seem to be able to get into them enough to find them scary or creepy.

i like some of them. i usually laugh at the stories & the building excitement, i like the crescendo of crazy events. when you actually have good actors on the screen, it can be kind of exhilarating or moving. i don't watch most of the popular horror films, especially the super gory stereotypical ones where the storyline is always the same, but there are good horror movies out there, a lot of them based on books.

@lovelywarpedlemon I personally consider traditional horror and 'gore' films to be slightly different genres. The latter is basically torture porn.

I certainly enjoy the story in a lot of horror films and have a soft spot for 70's Hammer Horror.
