I Love Horror Films

Just for fun i'll list off my top 10 horror films, that i haven't mentioned recently.

10. Bride of Frankenstein - the greatest sequel, the first was really good and classic, and i feel more for the monster there, but in this one is where the film itself is wonderful, put yourself in the mid 30's, think of other films made at that time, and wonder at the freshness this has.

9. The Devils - this film is just spectacular and transcends the horror genre, but is included here because working on this backwards, i am thinking of Oliver Reed and this was his most memorable role.

8. The Brood - my favorite Cronenberg, u see i love the 70's, his Shivers and Rabid were great, but his last film of this decade was when his directorial prowress really shone through, i count the days till i feel like watching this wonderful film again with the awesome presence of Oliver Reed.

7. Haxan - a silent film from Denmark, quite the special thing it is. How it depicts monks and nuns, in the 20's about the middle ages, pretty fresh!

6. Martyrs - this is the most extreme one i put here, because i'm in awe of it, it posseses the awesomeness of a Tarkovsky film, but i must say it's replay value is minimal.

5. Return of the Living Dead - a most fun 80's zombie romp

4. Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula - Great artsy sleaze from the Warhol universe, i slightly prefer Flesh, hilarious lines delivered by Udo Kier.

3. The Gates of Hell - a trilogy by Lucio Fulci which is comprised of City of the Living Dead, The Beyond and House by the Cemetery, no October is complete for me without these gems, well at least the first 2.

2. Pieces - What a delightful film this is, the most fun slasher i ever did see!

1. Vampyr - Carl Dreyer, this is truly in a class all by itself, and will always be my number 1 horror film.

"The Brood" over "Videodrome"?

@SW-User Yeah, I don't really discriminate that much on time periodes 😅

And the brood is 1979, while Videodrome is only 4 years later. It's nott that there is an actual decade between the movies either.

@Kwek00 Good point 😜, late 70's had kind of a 80's vibe already with the fashion sensibilities and all. Maybe after i see The Brood a dozen more times i'll see it less loftily.....;)

@SW-User It's a good movie... I like "the brood"... I just favor Videodrome over that one. But again, "tastes and colors"
