I Love Horror Movies

Number nine on my never finished, ever being added to list of favorite horror movies: The Bird Box. The first scene is intense and terrifying as you are trying to figure out why Sandra Bullock would speak this way to tiny children, and you don't really lose that tension the whole movie. The acting is, as is most of my favorites, excellent. The relationship between Sandra Bullock and Tom was one I didn't think I'd believe, but I absolutely did. I love not seeing the monster, because really - does it matter? Most intense and terrifying is the storyline of her relationship with the children. The scene as they approached the rapids just tore my guts out. Ok that isn't horror but it was a horrific moment. The monsters calling to them in voices of their loved ones feels less scary to me than other ways of tricking people; it seems too contrived, and too human, really. I prefer monsters that act like monsters. But overall, I really enjoyed this movie, and the soft bubbly happy ending was sooo needed! Not often I want to see that in a horror movie but come on - it's little kids. Just my kind of movie.

Never heard of it (and I like Bullock), but now I want to see it. Don't see much truly horrifying horror films these days, but perhaps I'm just jaded.

@ninjavu it was released straight onto Netflix, back in December. I don't know how that worked out for them, but I really enjoyed being able to watch it the day it came out! I made sure not to read anything about it, because that usually turns me off movies in the end. I have a pretty particular taste in horror movies, so too have a hard time finding ones I enjoy. The monsters were not as scary as the world they created with their presence, or how Sandra bullock's intense and emotionally stunted character reacted to that world.

@SushiRed The way you describe it and from what little I have read, it sounds very similar to A Quiet Place, which I enjoyed too for what sound like similar reasons to why your enjoyed The Bird Box.

Yeah, maybe I should subscribed to Netflix one of these days, but then I won't be on here so often. 🤷‍♂️
