I Love Horror Movies

Ok, fourth on my current list of favorite horror movies (because it will change) - Raw. This is my best foreign horror movie pick. (I know, Train to Busan is also in that category, but I am counting that one only as a zombie movie, so. My list, my rules 😊.) Raw is French, pretty slow, but it has some pretty horrific and gross moments. I am fascinated by foreign films from similar cultures, where it's almost familiar, but ... something culturally is just a little off. I have to assume being a vet in France is a bit more intense than in America. (The hazing scenes at the veterinary college seem ... over the top, to say the least - for *vets.*) It's a slow build but once it gets gross, it stays gross. This was one of those movies I kept replaying in my head - which I always take as a good sign. And always, character development and relationships, especially between the sisters, is what drew me in, even when I wasn't entertained by the horror aspect. A movie I'm glad I watched, and would watch again.

I'm thinking of the old film Suspiria, also Audition as examples of foreign horror that I find memorable. Not sure if you enjoyed either of those?

@sometimeslonelytoo not familiar with either, but I will put them on my watch list!

They're quite old, but also not mainstream, which is the drift I get from your posts, that are of interest to you. They both made quite an impact, as far as film history goes, I believe.

it isn't a horror movie but have you seen "diabolique"?
Newandimproved · 70-79, M
@SushiRed it's about this guy that runs a school in france. he's a chien (dog) and batters his wife. a coworker at the school helps her kill him...and they have to hide the body - a really neat twist.

it's diabolical

Haha - I would hope so! French movies generally disturb me (Amelie included - and it is a comedy!) so I definitely want to see it. I've put it on my watch list!

@SushiRed hope you enjoy!

I’ve not seen this yet but it’s on my to see list. Have to seek it out

@IrishPat It was on Netflix, which I don't know if you can access, but I don't know if it is there anymore, anyway.
