Dances with Dragons was a slog to get through. I only read them because I am a fan but I stopped enjoying reading them.
Whisper it quietly but the TV series was actually better than the books during the middle period. Martin's book series starts brilliantly but peters out.
Still, given the botched final season of the TV series, I'm mildly interested to see if he can do a better job.
