I would want to know.
As it is, my "friends" list consists mostly of two overlapping groups of people: those whose posts I am interested in reading, or people who have followed me or made a friend request and to whom I have reciprocated because I see nothing objectionable about them.
I actually have a very small group of users who I really think of as "friends" . I would want to know if someone on my list were doing what you describe.
