I Love Films That Make Me Think About Life

"High-Rise" is a 2015 film based on a 1975 novel by J. G. Ballard. The story depicts a luxury high-rise building as its affluent residents gradually descend into violent chaos. As with Ballard's previous novels Crash (1973) and Concrete Island (1974), High-Rise explores the ways in which modern social and technological landscapes could alter the human psyche in provocative and hitherto unexplored ways.

Hi Luna - I read mixed reviews. Apparently some people were known to walk out of the theatre... in any case, I definitely would use the word "intense" to describe this film. Be warned, it has a lot of sex and violence, but still, there is something special about it. The cinematography and set design is top notch, and the feeling from the characters is peculiar. I remember reading the director comment on a set of characters being the same person at different stages of development... it's trippy and surrealistic for sure. I still struggle to find coherence in it. I don't tend to watch Arthaus films more than once, but this might get a second go. Please share your thoughts after watching it! Incidentally, the author of the book, Ballard, wrote "Empire of The Sun" - which Steven Spielberg made a successful movie from.
