Terrence Malick's A Hidden Life and Days of Heaven
First, let me preface this post with a small amount of information. I am a simple woman living a simple life. I watched movies like "Fried Green Tomatoes", True Grit", "Little Women" Idiocracy" , and so on. You know, movies where you are entertained and spoon-fed the plot, and such. No real deep thinking is needed.🙂
When I watch movies for meaning, they are more like, The Long Way Home with Jack Lemmon, Sarah Paulson, or Hacksaw Ridge
Well, lately I have been wanting to expand my mind, get out of my comfort zone, learn something new, maybe a new way of contemplating life, so I asked my friend here to recommend some films, books, and music, because he is really wise about these things. He thinks in ways so different from my own that I just knew he could guide me to what I was looking for. 🙂
He recommended the films Terrence Malick's A Hidden Life and Days of Heaven. These were just the ticket. They were so different from anything I had ever been exposed to, and I found my mind growing. I actually got a headache trying to understand all the different aspects of these films. ❤
They are movies that make you question things, ask yourself what you would do, how you would feel, etc. They are truly just wonderful films to get you out of your normal everyday thinking and make your brain and heart really work to achieve even the smallest amount of understanding. Many others may be wiser than I am, and they would find these films less mind-altering, but for me, it was a great new experience.🙂
I highly recommend these films to anyone who is looking to expand their minds, especially if they are as simple as I am. Both films require deep contemplation, and I find that wonderful at this point in my life. 🙂
