I watched the wicked movie from 2024 on Amazon prime video
It was a beautiful magical film. Though it gets dark with what happened to the animals the underlying politics of the film are warning of fascist regimes and propaganda to scapegoat others. It is about embracing who you are despite being an outsider and even when the world is marginalizing you. It’s about friendship and making choices that make you go seperate ways. It reflects on class and privilege. It is such a deep and philosophical film with stunning visuals and a great plot. I cried during the oz dust ballroom dance between Glinda and elphaba, when dr Dillamond was taken away and the lion cub was in the cage, and during defying gravity scene ending the movie. I love this film. It appeals to anyone who has ever felt like elphaba thropp misunderstood and ostracized bullied or any mistreatment. In the movie she was no villain but taking a stand for the animals in oz. Madame Morrible and the wizard were the true villains. And at first I thought galinda was really shallow and vain but she had good character development. Fiyero pretends to be brainless, shallow, and self absorbed completely but has a saving grace moment when he helps elphaba save the lion cub and says to elphaba I have been thinking about the lion cub and dr. Dillamond before elphaba boarded the train for emerald city. . I was rooting for elphaba thropp the underdog the whole time. I hated the way her father treated her and I felt bad for nessa rose being in a wheel chair. And damn nessa rose didn’t even stand up for her sister at the dance club while others were ridiculing and mocking elephaba. That’s cold. I adore this film and I can’t wait to see part 2. Wicked for good.
