Magdalena Viraga (1986)
Gotta fit in 2 films from Mubi at least this StreamDay, looks intriguing, if i cannot finish any film posted about, i will delete it.
Synopsis
In east Los Angeles, Ida a prostitute who is accused of killing a client. She is dragged into a prison overseen by nuns and shadows of the crucifix, but the other prison is her inner life, as she battles at the walls which surround her—both material and psychic.
Mubi's Take
An atmospheric fever dream unfurling over motel rooms and prison cells, Nina Menkes’s groundbreaking first feature traces the cyclical nature of exploitation. Simmering with rage, Tinka Menkes’s potent evocation of a fractured female psyche unveils the emotional ravage of transactional encounters.
Jarfff's Take
experimental part here where the one on the bed says Look at the only chair, and the one on the chair beside the other chair is saying i cannot see the only chair.
so this has been called a Feminist Nothing-Core film by a Mubi reviewer, i can see that already!!
Not many here would like this film, it could prove quite the endurance test, but i'm ok with it, it's pretty bleak, and realistic.
