Good question! Don't know if it would be suitable for Disney, but I am thinking "The Old Man And The Sea", or does that not qualify?

@MsChambers also a good question. I don't know, I haven't heard of that one

@caPnAhab It's a book by Ernest Hemingway.

@MsChambers yep, I looked it up in this short time. Is it a good read?

Well a non animated version of the Paul Bunyan tales would work. There has been a number of animated versions however.

@caPnAhab I had chatGPT mini look for some. Here is what it came up with! 🙃
Here are some notable unmade animated movies based on well-known folk tales that have been discussed or proposed but never came to fruition:
Me & My Shadow - This DreamWorks project was set to be an animated film about a man whose shadow comes to life. Although it was inspired by the Danish fairy tale "The Shadow" by Hans Christian Andersen, it was ultimately canceled before release.
The Seven Ravens - Based on the Brothers Grimm tale, this story follows a girl on a quest to save her seven brothers who have been turned into ravens. While there have been adaptations, a major animated film version has yet to be made.
East of the Sun and West of the Moon - This Norwegian fairy tale tells the story of a girl who marries a bear, only to discover he is under a curse. Although it has been adapted in various forms, a high-profile animated version has not yet been produced.
Journey to the West - This classic Chinese tale has inspired numerous adaptations, but a major animated film specifically focused on its rich narrative and characters has not been realized in the mainstream animation industry.
Aesop's Fables - While many of Aesop's fables have been adapted into various formats, a comprehensive animated film that explores multiple fables in a cohesive narrative has not been made, despite the potential for rich storytelling.
These projects highlight the potential for animated adaptations of well-known folk tales that have yet to be explored in depth by major studios.

@DeWayfarer the seven ravens is already a catchy title.

@caPnAhab Doesn't mean you have to call it that.
I thought of another myself, yet when I looked it up it was taken. Yet had a different title. Lemuria's title: Beyond Lemuria. 2007.
Here: Brothers Grimm, seven ravens.
They can't even copyright that. It's the author. And they are dead.
