TBH, I never like race-swaps. I just think the character should have consistent traits, including how they look. I wouldn't like it if Ariel had blonde hair instead of her trademark red hair.
But, hey, that's just me.

@BohemianBoo What traits do you like about the little Mermaid?
BohemianBoo · M
@SlightlyBelowAverageJoe You mean how she looks or personality?
SlightlyBelowAverageJoe · 36-40, M
@BohemianBoo both.
BohemianBoo · M
@SlightlyBelowAverageJoe Well for looks, she should be a ginger. For personality, I like her optimism and curiosity. I think those were her defining character traits.

@BohemianBoo What do you mean by ginger?
BohemianBoo · M
@SlightlyBelowAverageJoe A ginger is a white person with red hair.
SlightlyBelowAverageJoe · 36-40, M
@BohemianBoo So in your opinion, The actress that plays her needs to be white. Red hair. Portrays optimism and curiosity.
BohemianBoo · M
@SlightlyBelowAverageJoe Yeah. If she's not going to look and act like Ariel, then why even use that character? Why not just do a whole different movie?
SlightlyBelowAverageJoe · 36-40, M
@BohemianBoo why do looks play such an important role in a person's personality?
SlightlyBelowAverageJoe · 36-40, M
@BohemianBoo Unless specifically it would change the outcome of the story.
BohemianBoo · M
@SlightlyBelowAverageJoe Like I said, this is just how I feel about it. The story can turn out the same, but if the character is portrayed as different, I just feel like it's not the same character.

@BohemianBoo I understand your point of view.
