We all have a chance, you know

Heaven Can Wait (1943) is a Technicolor romantic comedy-drama about Henry Van Cleve (Don Ameche), a charming, spoiled playboy recounting his life of privilege and minor indiscretions to the Devil (Laird Cregar) to determine if he deserves to enter Hell. The movie, which often explores themes of death with humor and charm, follows his journey from childhood to his 25-year marriage to Martha (Gene Tierney).

This is the last of a series of hit comedies director Ernst Lubitsch made in the years just before and during World War II. Ninotchka (1939), The Shop Around the Corner (1940), That Uncertain Feeling (1941), To Be or Not To Be (1942), and this one, Heaven Can Wait (1943), make up the core of a very successful body of work for one of Hollywood's finest directors.

I’ve only seen the Warren Beatty remake. I’ll have to look for it. I loved Ninotchka and of course Little shop around the corner (remake too).
