Are Hollywood blockbusters becoming stale?

All I am seeing are unnecessary reboots and prequels and sequels.

They're formulaic for a reason. As long as people keep going to them, and the formula works, there's no reason to change them. It's about minimizing financial risk. They'll change when people stop supporting them.
