Question about sci fi guns...

...why are they so shit?

If you look at a lot of sci fi guns it becomes apparent that the designers of such weapons were too focused on what is high tech than what's actually effective.

Take the blasters from Star Wars, famous enough right? Their bolts travel at around 75kph

With if we're talking projectile speed? That's shit...honestly lol how does anyone in that universe hope to win a war? Then again, laser swords are a common weapon in the universe (I wonder why)

Any other sci fi weapons that compared to what we have now is terrible?

First. In the vacuum of space. Regular projectile weapons would be useless.

@ReaperofTime: Ah, but you forget, 90% of all engagements in Star Wars were on a planet surface.

@Fangirlsarah1996: but not all planets would have suitable conditions.

@ReaperofTime: bullets with an oxidizer in the gunpowder would work quite well, additionally with the external pressure being zero and there being zero atmospheric friction to slow the projectile down it would no doubt have a higher velocity.
@ReaperofTime: actually they WOULD work but yo have to have oxidant, in the casing of the shell.. away from planetary mass, just point and shoot
Near a mass? on an orbit, and that shit will curve...
