How come space ships in sci fi always seem to have an underwhelming amount of firepower?

Like...most of these ships should be able to level cities due to their size...yet they don't...they provide "some" orbital support at best...

The wings are a bit non-sense, unless the ship travels in atmosphere too. Round probably has something to do with gravity. Large objects in space naturally become round. I guess if you're building a large space object, that's just the easiest design to start with, since it tends toward that shape anyway.
