Fewer good movies because created movies is SO over-costly these days and few studios want to take the chance of spending tens of millions on a flop, so they go with franchises, sequels, etc. because they seem a safer investment.

On the other hand, if you consider ALL forms of video/film, the 100s of TV channels have actually increased the amount of video options out there -- it's just not in theaters.

@ChipmunkErnie Perhaps the value one puts to individual series is indeed personal, but take my point about M*A*S*H then. It wasn't a series that expensive to make, but I'm sure that no-one would make it today like they wouldn't make All In The Family any more either. Again, I'd put forward that something else changed than just better bookkeeping or such. Not that I'm against series like Married With Children, I'd put forward again that one has done more with the creation of All In The Family. It's indeed difference of Zeitgeist almost. There needs to be more vetables in the soup though, and that's nothing to do with today's difference with the past. It's to do with creation for the betterment of ones world.

@val70 @ChipmunkErnie We have a hard time with 'Firefly' in our household.

Back in the day, so the story goes, the network cancelled James Cameron's 'Dark Angel' (Jessica Alba), after just 2 fantastic series. They greenlit 'Firefly' as the be all and end all, kicking 'DA' to the floor.

So...bad karma!

@KarenDuponteDurose1 Right. Like I said. For the viewer it's at first about personal taste. Me too, I enjoyed Dark Angel at the time. Not really strange because of the beauty of Jessica Alba and a lot more. I know. But take my own comparison between All In The Family, Married With Children and Modern Family. There's perhaps much more intertainment today but there's less formation on offer too. Where's today's Archie Bunker for example? Let alone a tv-program like Monitor. And yes, the movie I choose for this posting is nothing like reality, but it's indeed much better than Covert Affairs.

I'm a big fan of Tony Scott and had to reach out to my brother after his untimely passing. So many great movies, and of course his brother Ridley is no slouch.

Most are horror movies now.

@Degbeme Yes, you're right but I don't like the really creepy and bloody ones. Seen the trailer for The Other Mommy yet?
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@val70 That`s just it. Too much blood and gore. No I haven`t seen that trailer yet

Most of the movies I watch were made in the 1940s-50s and are in black&white. Film Noir and scifi/monster movies. I haven't been to a movie theatre since 2001.
