Who exactly was the target audience for movies like Gremlins and The Labyrinth?

😂 How come we had The Neverending Story but not this?!

Also, to this day I thought robot Bil was an original concept. Nope, it was ripped off. 😭🙈 Whaaaaaat?

I'd be lying if I said I don't see a bit of Clockwork beast here too.

I love Labyrinth. It's a masterpiece of creativity.
Oh im so glad you got to see it !

Its has incredible puppetry, amazing visuals and subtle sub story lines.

I LOVED it when it first came out - and love it as much still.

Im do glad its finally being seen for the masterpiece it is🤗

My favorite bit is where she falls down that hole thats filled with faces made wholly from hands - its so clever !

Oh....and LUDO 🤗🤗🥰

@OogieBoogie I'm absolutely in love with the architecture in that town. 😍 Little houses of various shapes and with roof tiles, all around a town square. They're like backdrops in the first old silent movies.

Sorry you all, the music is just spoiling it for me. I know it's 80s, there's Bowie and all that but...nope. Okay, I'm not a huge fan of Bowie to be honest but I still like some of his songs and this is not it. It's a downgrade for me as opposed to for example Mirrormask with Iain Ballamy on soundtrack. That was just a freaking masterpiece. But yeah, also released 2 decades later.

It is a bit of a strange one.
From concept to presentation.

Perhaps strange is the wrong word. Unique maybe.

Gremlins was produced by Spielberg while Labyrinth was a joint venture between Jim Henson and George Lucas.

So maybe it has more to do with who had the production money rather than creative control and studio support.

But this is one reason I keep saying (especially to those of the streaming generation) don't get obsessed with the here and now.
Research some of the earlier stuff and then tell me today is in any way better.

At the time I WAS the target audience.

@AthrillatheHunt I'm seeing it for the first time ever and love it. So trippy.

@CrazyMusicLover I actually met Bowie in montreux Switzerland fall of 1989.

@AthrillatheHunt That's really cool.

At the time it was common practice to make movies that burned things into your soul.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Jessmari Still, I can't list all that many. Maybe I haven't watched all the right ones.

Parents that wanted to dumb you down?
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@FloorGenAdm Why dumb you down? Lol, maybe rather give you nightmares. 😆
