You can still watch some of the music videos on YouTube.

Another staple of youth gone. It's a sad day.

I remember watching MTV with my cousins, back in the day when airing music was their 1st priority.

The flood of reality TV programming likely killed them. Just as it's invaded other good channels.

I watched videos of MTV from the 80's in the late 90's when I was in school. They have been gone a while now.
TexChik · F
@cherokeepatti I was, and still am, into '80s music; it was insane fun, and the fantasy telling the song's story.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TexChik Yeah I remember that. I was so disappointed after we got our house and we got cable tv (never had it before), nothing good on MTV by then.
TexChik · F
@cherokeepatti The really good MTV lasted about 8 years, then they got greedy and it wall went everywhere except good

Internet killed the video star.

From the movie 'kickin it old skool' - Jamie Kennedy said it for all of us in 2007:

Mom! The TV's broken.

Supposed to be MTV,
but they're not playing any videos.

It's just a bunch of girls
talking and crying.

I had honestly never heard of the channels they shut down, but back in September they made it sound like MTV itself was closing its doors.

The world I grew up in has been gone!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nitedoc I got that feeling decades ago. Thinking about how things were when I was born on a farm in Missouri in the 50’s. Every thing has changed. Call me nostalgic for thinking about it that way but it is how I feel about it.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@cherokeepatti Those were fine times back then.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nitedoc my father screwed up everything. The farm was owned by my uncle and my father’s sister. He swindled them out of half of the farm using us children as bait. Ruined a good thing for us. He wasn’t living there either or helping do anything on the farm.

But I agree with you. Those times were better as far as lifestyle for most people. We were simpler, had simple homemade fun, socialized with farm families, would help each other out when we needed to, social bonds stronger and most people didn’t desire to get things that they couldn’t afford so they made do with what they had. It wasn’t a contest to see who had the best or more stuff.

Omg I think I will be lost now.
To be honest I didn’t even know they still existed.

The world is always changing. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes for the worse.
CougarLisa · 36-40, F
@unregisteredhypercam4 mostly worse.
In fairness it had been dead for at least 20 years. Good to see they are finally getting round to burying the corpse
SumKindaMunster · 56-60, M
@TheDeathOCuHullainn Yes. Lots of "zombie" channels on modern cable TV that nobody watches. I certainly wouldn't have known about MTV shutting down had it not made the news..
H1raeth · 36-40, M
i hurt every time they knock a building down from my childhood.
