What does a fire stick do differently than using the apps on my TV?

I've always wondered what these are for.

A firestick can be beneficial to those who don't have a smart tv, it basically converts the tv to a smart tv. You can also have them 'jailbraked' and have every iptv channel installed for a relatively small charge, not legal but very common here for watching live sport and films

@BlobbyMcBlobface I see. Hmm I think I'll just stick to what I currently have. Especially given that I hardly watch TV tbh. I have prime and use BBC iPlayer , itx and 4od. That's good enough.

[@Mellowgirl I rarely watch tv either, I watch more YouTube than tv because tv has become saturated with reality and tacky gameshows, none of which appeal to me.
