The Creature trilogy follows a pattern. The first film shows the Gillman is in his natural environment, living his natural life. Then humans invade his world to capture him.
In the 2nd film the Gillman is brought into the human world. There is conflict between the Gillman and the human population.
In the 3rd film the Gillman has been altered by scientists into a land creature. He is now the outsider in the human world. At the end of the movie the Gillman walks into the ocean, knowing he will drown. He cannot live with what the humans have done to him.
I always felt the Gillman was a sympathetic and tragic figure. He was content living in his lagoon. Then he is attacked, imprisoned and treated very cruelly and unjustly by the violent humans.
