I watched Waterworld for the first time last night.

That film had so much potential and they just kind of squandered it. Should have spent more time focusing on the script than the far away shots of Kevin Costner on a boat. 🤔

Also, this was the funniest moment in the whole thing:

Haha yeah I watched it on telly about a year ago now, it was sorta like Mad Max - Beyond the Thunderdome on water, LOLZ😄

@AdaXI Yup, they took a lot of inspiration from Mad Max I think. They also insisted on filming on open water which Steven Spielberg cautioned them against and they didn't listen.

It was the most expensive movie that had ever been made at the time it came out. 😵‍💫

@thepeculiarpanda Wow I didn't realise it had been the most expensive film ever made at that point in time. Although I do remember it being a massively over budget flop.

Watching it for the first time recently though and going in expecting to be very disappointed I didn't actually mind it. I mean when it came out it was sorta 10 years too late they'd done all the post apocalyptic stuff in the early-mid 80s but when you compare it to the other films of that type then it ain't that bad.

Like plot hole wise you can't really beat Thunderdome, some kids living in the middle of the wasteland, in an oasis that has fresh water and food, like WTF!!!

How come nobody else has ever found this place? Why did they even leave there? Why doesn't Max just go back to the oasis at the end of the film? What the hell is wrong with all these people? LOLZ😅

That said all the other post apocalyptic films that had ever been made up to that point probably didn't cost anywhere near what Waterworld did to make combined so it's staggeringly poor value for it's budget

@AdaXI It wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen by a long shot. It just had long stretches where nothing really happened. Cut out a lot of that stuff and I think it would have been a much better movie. 🤔

I've actually never seen Thunderdome! One more film I need to add to my catch up list haha.

I think Waterworld cost something like $175 million? In 1995, that was serious money! ...I mean, not that it's not still serious money, but you know. 😂

@thepeculiarpanda I think Thunderdome cost around 10 million to make and was easily the most expensive of the original Mad Max films but you honestly wouldn't be able to tell it was super low budget to make compared to Waterworld or made 10 years earlier.

Thunderdome has an awesome plot concept though but I think the bigger budget meant it was trying to hit a bigger target audience so there's a lot of commercial box ticking going on like the Tina Turner soundtrack ''we don't need another hero!!!'' LOLZ😅

If you liked the first two films though it's definitely worth a watch but it sorta loses the plot halfway through and it's more like a family entertainment action film than the first two were.
