Where are the 80s teen movies with black teens?

As a 80s teen, I loved those movies - the John Hughes stuff and all those light weight flicks aimed at young, upper middle class fun loving white people. I always wondered why there were no black kids - not even minor secondary characters. Ferris Bueller, Pretty in Pink, Valley Girl, Breakfast Club, Repo Man are my favs.

If you are about to say "it was a different time", get off this thread - it requires more thought and insight than that.

Unrelated note: I STILL want to bang Molly Ringwald

I guess Hughes wrote what he knew about.

Did you have mixed groups of friends in highschool ?

@ManKing And yet, just a few years later look at ALL the black gang related movies that hit.
All telling good stories but very much in the 'hoodlum' vein.
Not sure that was representative of young black culture of the time either.

@ManKing And yet Directors like Spike Lee and John Singleterry; Ice Cube; Rakim; Thomas Lee Wright et al all found funding and studio backing for movies like Juice; New Jack city; Boyz n the hood etc.

@ManKing "Urban crime dramas" ? A whole new sub-genre.
Like i said, those i mentioned had studio backing and financial support yet THAT'S where they chose to go.
Maybe it's a lack of positive black role models or stories in general.
No racial intent here and i object to the fact you try to make one.

Spike Lee made some very controversial movies alongside the ones you 'myopic'ly chose to mention.
Do the right thing; Jungle fever; Clockers; Blackkklansman
