At what age you are considered a spinster?

I was watching Bridget Jones diary, I head the term several times while watching the movie.
I mean why are women who are not married are to be called spinsters anyways…?
So bizarre

I think Its not nice to call a woman a spinster
Generally a woman will be called a spinster when she is at an age when she cant have children anymore
