"Barbenheimer" craze

The movies "Oppenheimer" and "Barbie" are showing the same day in many theaters. Many viewers are seeing them both.

I suspect it may have something to do with the heat wave and air conditioned theaters.

Whichever, I'm curious to learn if seeing these two movies in succession makes your head explode.

Seems most "Barbenheimer" folks see Barbie first, but if we do it, I think we'll save Barbie for dessert.

One of many memes for the pairing

@ElwoodBlues We can be lovable, if peculiar.

When my kid's dad and I were twenty-somethings we used to do two for one movie dates and sneak into a 2nd show after the 1st. Often it was a kid's movie for the 2nd. He actually joked we should do it again for old time sake and I had to remind him all the movies are assigned seats now, you can't pull that shenanigan anymore.

Either it's all bots that are perpetuating this nonsense, or people really love the Academy Awards.

I'm betting more on the former. I think both will flop, and I don't intend to see either.
@SnailTeeth So far, "Barbie" is setting records and "Oppenheimer" is exceeding expectations.

Maybe people just need to do something together..

@Mamapolo2016 I was surprised the new Indiana Jones movie did well, so I could be wrong.

I really only trust word-of-mouth reviews nowadays though, bots ruined online ones.
@SnailTeeth I think people are excited about going OUT.

Loved Garrison Keillor's humor.

Me too.

It was a metro-wide 4th celebration at the Truman museum. Huge crowd.

A special highlight was when it ended, after the fireworks display and we were walking around the back of the museum to get to our car and found ourselves in the middle of a gang rumble. More like a riot with two sides throwing rocks an beer bottles at one another, and yelling at one another with death threats. It got extra serious when one side drove a car into the others, ramming the other sides' motor cycles, people screaming. We were in the bystanders crowd, just trying to pass through to leave, but still within 50 feet, way to close, so we took safety in a small grove of trees. We probably overwhelmed the 911 operator with panic calls. The police came, eventually 30+ police cars, but for the first 5 minutes there was but one police officer walking into the lion's den. Still to this day amazed at how he single handedly took control and kept everyone at bay untill the overwhelming police force showed up and started sorting things out.

He stepped out the patrol car with a megaphone and and a big night stick. As the crowd started to overwhelm him, he extended the night stick and his arm, and drew an imaginary circle around himself and announced something to the effect that anyone coming closer will be arrested and probably worse.
@Heartlander So glad it wasn't worse. I do not like large groups of any kind. They're so volatile.

Glad you - and everybody else - were saved. Yay, Cop!
@Mamapolo2016 Thanks; and yea, a horrible ending to an otherwise good day. When we heard the crash and yells when one side drove the vehicle into the crowd we assumed the worse. But per the next morning newspaper no one seriously hurt.

Definitely not what's expected at a Garrison Keillor show :)
