The Clan of the Cave Bear.

While the book is a true masterpiece (by Jean M. Auel) and is one of the most beloved novels in the USA, the movie is , well, if there was a scale, like 0 horrible 10 perfect, at least -100. THAT BAD. It was such a disgrace.
I maybe could watch ten minutes and it was enough torture.
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON I felt the same. The book is one of my all-time favorites and the movie was awful. I didn't enjoy the sequels to Clan of the Cave Bear nearly as much.
@Mamapolo2016 @Mamapolo2016 The sequels ARE not the same, however, I still was/am a fan of The Valley of Horses AND The Mammoth Hunters.

The others are a DISASTER.

Someone suggested that the last three books were written by a ghost writer.
I truly cannot disagree with this supposition.
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON I don't know. The first, i think, was a work of love ... the rest were progressively obvious as raking in the bucks - which is not a bad thing. It just doesn't result in the awesome power of the first.
@Mamapolo2016 I think only her husband and pets know lol...

But the tone is SO different and there are even very disturbing elements, I will
forever hold the first book, enshrined.

It IS in a class by itself.
There are no sequels or equals.

@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON The first four were excellent. However, she clearly lost her mojo in the ensuing decades before she wrote another book sadly.

@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON Ooh I loved the book. Sad to hear the movie was that bad! Thanks for the heads up.
@SW-User I tried fiur or five times to traverse, figuratively speaking lol, the landscape of the Plains of Passage....oh the TEDIUM...ad infinitum....
I skipped to near the end. HORRIBLE PEOPLE! I was shaken and devastated.

Terrible book.
@LadyBronte Welcome.

As the Lord of the Rings movies were a credit and paid homage to the books,
this was the opposite.

@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON I think I only actually saw the first Lord of the Rings movie. As I recall, I enjoyed it, but for some reason lost interest in the rest of the series.
@LadyBronte The second movie for me, was the worst of the three. Too much fighting and horrible things and orcs!🤮

The return of the king was my favourite.

The fellowship was my second favourite.

@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON Glad I didn't go on with them then!
