Two great British post-colonial movies

There's only one new book on the true effects of British colonialism that one needs to read and that is William Dalrymple's The Anarchy. However, pointing to the following two lesser known movies I like to wider also the scope of knowledge and appreciation of today's movie viewing public. The first movie is Bhowani Junction (1956) by George Cukor. I like it because of the great ending when one of the main characters, a little man for some, makes the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good and saves therewith a country that doesn't even appreciate him. It's also directed by Cukor who made my favorite A Star Is Born movie the year before, and the delicious looking Ava Gardner. The second one is Guns at Batasi (1964) by John Guillermin who went on to continue to make a really long string of good movies. I like it mainly because it shows one two great British actors at their peak of performance: Jack Hawkins who was in Lawrence of Arabia two years earlier and Richard Attenborough. The latter transforming him totaly for the role of the Regimental Sergeant Major and giving the performance of his acting career then and there
