Any other fans of the origional _Quantam Leap_ watching the new show?

I'm trying to figure out if I found a couple big inconsistencies or I just missed something.

When Al was in a POW camp in Vietnam Beth thought he had died. She moved on and married someone else. If Janis is supposed to be the daughter of Al and Beth she would have to have been born before that. She would be well into her 50's or older by now. Janis would be about the age Beth looks. Looking at Janis she couldn't even be 40.

The person the leaper replaces is transported into the waiting room in the future. I can think of several times this was a plot point in the original. Sam was always in his own body. Ziggy created a hologram of the person he was supposed to be for those around him to see. Sam leaped into a vet who had lost his legs. When he needed to walk to save a fellow vet he appeared to be floating because the guy he was supposed to be had no legs. And yet when Ben leaped into a boxer he had the body of the boxer, his strength and speed.

Of course if the writers and producers are ignoring how old the characters would have to be and portraying them as younger that opens up the possibility of Ernie Hudson's character being the same Magic Sam's brother served with. That seems like a nice idea. But the continuity error will still bug me.

If the new leap tech works differently than the old and Ben is actually inhabiting other people's bodies, that could explain why they don't seem ever to interview the person he replaces. That would seem to represent a step backwards for the project. Al often got good intel from those people.

Am I missing something? Or just overthinking it?
Final episode of the old series, Sam leapt, not into another body, but as himself and told Beth that Al was alive and will come home, so they stayed together and Al never married anyone else. Do not recall if it mentioned "kids" in the happily ever after thing about the two, but possible it did. Even if not, a daughter could fit in their timeline with that fact. I was wondering about the "other" in the waiting room, maybe it will be explained later? I have to say, so far not too awful. I'm trying to keep an open mind and give it a chance, but can go either way so wait and see.

Sam quantum leapt into the actual bodies, so when he looked into the mirror he saw their face, everyone else saw the person, and Al also saw that person.

The personality, or if you will the 'soul' of that person leapt into Sam's body in the 'waiting room'

There were of course a couple of fluffs in the 'science' of this as we saw with the floating veteran.

The reboot in my opinion is just too dull to bother with.
