My thoughts on Looper

Ok so at the end of the movie (spoiler) he kill’s himself to save the boy, but in the original timeline he was raised by his mother without her being shot, so therefore no matter what he would still become the rainmaker right? Is it like a water ripple but with time and it will correct itself and always be the same outcome? Sorry for the run on sentence.
