@DoorMattress: Perhaps I'm not explaining myself clearly enough. What I meant was, while I find Vader's backstory fascinating, I felt it would have worked better if it had not been shown to us on screen, but rather, that it was left up to us to imagine what it would have looked like. It would have made him more mysterious.

@DoorMattress: Bad story-telling. George Lucas was great at special effects. He needed a lot of help telling a good story. I think by the time Part One rolled around he was surrounded by asskissers, like any successful wealthy person, and no one had the nerve to tell him "This sucks!"
