Apperently it's going to be about the 2nd age.
So the stories of the 2nd age from the Silmarilion & Unfinished Tales. And you have those books called "The History of Middle Earth" for the real uberfans.

That and the references from things that are written in the 3th age, is all the source material that is out there, I think.

@Sharky86 I've not read his sons books, I also wasn't that impressed by "the hobbit". Sure it has its charms, but it's just not that spectaculairrrr. But Silmarillion and LoTR is quite impressive imo.

I did get a bit annoyed by over descriptive writings during LOTR though. That's my only criticism. Like: "The hobbits are walking the last few miles before reaching the border, and the road is full of brown dirt. Next to the road you could see the green grass, with the white flowers and some yellow flowers slowly moving in the wind. The cherry trees were blooming with pink blossoms and you could hear the happy bees ... " 3 pages later "And as the hobbits reach the border of the shire" .

@Kwek00 I didn't read ALL, and I'm not really interested in the son's books, but I've read various titles from the one and only J.R.R. Tolkien snd loved all of them. The Hobbit was perhaps the first that I've read.
Also I use to find boring the descriptive writing but Tolkien is so good to me, I really felt things while reading.

@Sharky86 I member my mom having herself subscribed to one of those book clubs where you have to buy a book every so many months. Because mom thought this would be a great way for her to start reading. Ofcourse, every so many months the "promo-book" that you automatically get for being a member and not having bought anything came in by mail. And then you had a small amount of time to bring it back and buy something else. So, it became a routine for me to return stuff and buy something on moms' expense because she didn't have the time. Which kinda grew my CD collection, but after a while also my books. One of the first titles I brought from there is "Lord of the Rings" one big book in dutch. Mom said I would never finish that, it was a pure waste of money. 3 weeks later I wrote my book report for school. That's also how I got all my Shannara books in hardcover. I'm a bit sorry that I didn't get all the Robin Hobbs at that time, they are pretty hard to find in hardcover and dutch now.

They’re adding more rings? I count 24. Not sure how many they said in the fellow ship of of the ring

@MrAboo I suppose some, if not ALL of those rings are not rings of power.
Celebrimbor and Sauron will start to create them not before the end of 1st season imho.

Anyway there were 19+1 rings of power. The most powerful are the 3 for the elves kings, created by Celebrimbor and not corrupted/only partly corrupted by Sauron. 7 for the Dwarves and 9 for the Men (Nazgul), then all alone Sauron created The One Ring to subdue the others.
Also if I recall well, there were minor rings, not included in the count of the rings of power.
