I'd say Dune but Sci-fi's don't always far well at award ceremonys

@SW-User True. Which is unfortunate. I remember a few years ago when Ex Machina got screwed out of a nomination

@SW-User Haven't seen that but I really like Denis Villeneuve's work. Prisoners, Sicario and Arrival are ones I go back to again and they're fairly recent films. He's very strong visually in a cinematically bland age.

@SW-User My son enjoyed the movie so much that I bought him the book for Christmas

@SW-User Well...looks like we got ourselves a reader!

@SW-User I did see it and had very high hopes. Most scenes were either visually stunning to well, terrible. There was just this bizarre mix of either great or poorly crafted visuals. The flow of the story was extremely uneven bordering on confusing (I’ve read all the Dune books). A friend of mine who came with me to see the movie did not read the books and was utterly lost and bored with it. Don’t worry about characters dying. You won’t have any attachment to them because they barely have any screen time to develop…and dead. I never thought I would find myself saying David Lynch’s version was better in the fact it at least held truer to the book (when you view all of the unedited footage in order). I loved Bladerunner 2049 and had hopes that Dune was going to be a masterpiece. Alas…
@SW-User Hicks was amazing! Another one taken from us too soon

@stratosranger I'm glad you said that. Was wondering if it would turn out like that because:
1 Covid
2: Denis' potential problems working with [translation: under] a major studio

But I will definitely see it some time.

I've never read any of the books but maybe in future. Dune was always a bit of a curiosity for me and the Litany Against Fear kicks ass. I basically have that memorised for years because it's just badass. Enjoyed Lynch's [only saw that in the last couple years and it is batshit insane but that is to be expected from him I suppose - and visually striking as well].

I enjoyed BR2049. I don't think Denis himself is all that enamoured of it though. He seems to have hinted at finding that somewhat painful or not to have turned out exactly as he had planned so in the back of my mind I wondered about Dune. Still a little mad at myself I didn't try more to see Dune in the cinema but I did see BR2049. Nicer problems to have.

I'll just watch it in the house with wine or beer instead. And it's out now too [I think] will get to soon. 😀

In fact I'm gonna go on an entire Denis Villeneuve binge [again] after I see Dune. 👍
@SW-User He is and remains an amazing director. I am sure he will do other great works
