Although I'm a big fan of the James bond series it does make me laugh that a lot of the male fans think that modern take on bond is a fairy because

He's not sexist and Misogynistic like he used to be in connery and moores day

I think you'll find it's because he is no longer true to the origin of the character.

That's what pisses fans off most about corrupted franchises.
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical in what way isn't he? He's still a handsome ladiesman who travels to exotict places killing bad guys so I really can't see what's so different
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 That could describe any 'spy' in an action film.

It's the rest that sets Bond apart. His character.

He's not a nice guy, he does not do nice things, but he still works for the greater good.

I predict this next film will flop badly because they've strayed too far from the source of what made it all popular.
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical Well they've done OK so far so I highly doubt it. Their not made to solely appeal to us old darts their for youngens who can be arsed to go to the cinema. Bond still is a unlikeable ruthless agent
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 The next one will be different. It's going 'woke' according to reports, and we all know what that does to the box-office...
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical that's nonsense. That's just pissy people who are upset that phoebe waller-bridge has helped write the script.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 We shall see 😁

Maybe Bond will be the exception that proves the other 15 or so recent examples wrong 🤷‍♂️ lol
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical what u on about? Last bond films all been successfull
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 I'm talking about other franchises that have gone down a similar route and suffered for it.
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical the bond producers have thoroughly denied that its going woke and bond will be the same character fundamentally. This new one whenever it finally comes out will be a big success
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 As I say. We shall see.

I honestly hope it will not be the case and that it will do well, but I'm not holding my breathe 🤷‍♂️
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical it's bond. Every film does well just some less than others
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 Once upon a time I would have said the same about Star Wars... Nothing is sacred anymore.
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical star wars is still successful. Although that's a good example of relying too much on what's happened before and creating nostalgia. They just feel tiresome like I've seen this before but done better. People actually seemed upset thst daisy ridley was the main character like guys are afraid of intelligent action women
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 No, that's just what the mainstream media have been saying. The issue wasn't that Rey was female, the issue was that she was a very badly written character.

How can a hero grow and develop when they are already 'perfect' and amazing at everything from the second you meet them.
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical yet no one complains when rambo kills many people singlehndedly or when statham beats up henchmen one at a time. Or when arnie kills a load of guys whilst moving slowly
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 Different genre, so therefore different tropes. They are not comparable.
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical they are. Both film genres about fictional characters. Most people are OK with a male character being practically perfect and invincible but get upset when a female character is strong like Charlize theron in mad max fury Road. Load of menimists whinged so much about thst it was pathetic
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 I'm sorry, but you're wrong. They are different.

You're just regurgitating the rubbish the mass media are force feeding people.
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical it's true hun theirs guys out there who seem threatened by strong female characters. Just makes me laugh. I agree though rey was a bad written character although no one complained when in the return of the jedi luke all of a sudden became a great jedi out of nowhere when he'd hardly had any real training and what he had he pretty much failed at
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 There was a long period of time between Empire and Return, the final film.

Rey STARTS OUT at a greater level of power, with a ridiculously large skill set, for which there is no explanation.

As a very simple example... She lives on a desert world on which water is at a premium and has huge value, there are no lakes, or seas etc on that planet. However, in the very next film (a few days later in continuity) she is seen being able to swim 🤷‍♂️
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical 6 months isn't the longest time to suddenly become highly skilled at something especially when luke says to yoda that he's come back to finish his training. He dosent specifically say he's seen yoda since he left for cloud city to fight vader. I agree about rey. Didn't bother me at first as it was first shown that she has had to be resourceful but then writers just got lazy
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 To be fair, Luke even get's his ass kicked in Return and had it not been for Vader the Emperor would have killed him.
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical true but in the previous films he was at best average with a lightsaber and how he used the force. In empire vader basically wipes the floor with luke and just plays with him but in return luke actually stands toe to toe with him.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@jaz63 And in The Force Awakens Rey BEATS Kylo with zero training at all...

They were not writing a character, they were writing an idealised superpowered version of themselves.

And why might that have been?

Identity politics...
jaz63 · 61-69, F
@Quizzical true but its imporant for girls today to have a character to look up to. I think that's what they were hoping for rey to be
