I think you'll find it's because he is no longer true to the origin of the character.
That's what pisses fans off most about corrupted franchises.

@jaz63 That could describe any 'spy' in an action film.
It's the rest that sets Bond apart. His character.
He's not a nice guy, he does not do nice things, but he still works for the greater good.
I predict this next film will flop badly because they've strayed too far from the source of what made it all popular.

@Quizzical star wars is still successful. Although that's a good example of relying too much on what's happened before and creating nostalgia. They just feel tiresome like I've seen this before but done better. People actually seemed upset thst daisy ridley was the main character like guys are afraid of intelligent action women

@jaz63 No, that's just what the mainstream media have been saying. The issue wasn't that Rey was female, the issue was that she was a very badly written character.
How can a hero grow and develop when they are already 'perfect' and amazing at everything from the second you meet them.

@Quizzical they are. Both film genres about fictional characters. Most people are OK with a male character being practically perfect and invincible but get upset when a female character is strong like Charlize theron in mad max fury Road. Load of menimists whinged so much about thst it was pathetic

@Quizzical it's true hun theirs guys out there who seem threatened by strong female characters. Just makes me laugh. I agree though rey was a bad written character although no one complained when in the return of the jedi luke all of a sudden became a great jedi out of nowhere when he'd hardly had any real training and what he had he pretty much failed at

@jaz63 There was a long period of time between Empire and Return, the final film.
Rey STARTS OUT at a greater level of power, with a ridiculously large skill set, for which there is no explanation.
As a very simple example... She lives on a desert world on which water is at a premium and has huge value, there are no lakes, or seas etc on that planet. However, in the very next film (a few days later in continuity) she is seen being able to swim 🤷♂️

@Quizzical 6 months isn't the longest time to suddenly become highly skilled at something especially when luke says to yoda that he's come back to finish his training. He dosent specifically say he's seen yoda since he left for cloud city to fight vader. I agree about rey. Didn't bother me at first as it was first shown that she has had to be resourceful but then writers just got lazy
