Which is better Spectrum? Fire stick? Hulu? Or Netflix

Would you rather have cable? And is a fire stick like having cable?

Consider spending your time in a public library instead. It's an amazing experience, leaving you changed.

As opposed to all these mind-numbing services. 😐️

NativeOregonian · 51-55
@helenS I have library cards from 17 different cities from the past 49 years.
helenS · 36-40, F
@MrsCurious Do you remember the first time you walked into a library? And you saw that incredible amount of books? Thousands and thousands of books!

To me it was as if I had discovered a parallel universe full of wonders. I was still a child.
helenS · 36-40, F
@NativeOregonian You must have started visiting libraries at a very young age then! 😁
slobound · 46-50, M
@helenS The problem with libraries is you have to take the books back, I discovered a site called Thriftbooks and I get used perfectly good books (Often former library books) for 4 or 5 bucks and I have 'em for good. Currently 4 bookcases in my office room but getting close to time to plan on where to fit in case # 5 lol
helenS · 36-40, F
@slobound I stopped purchasing books quite some time ago. Why filling my house with books? Everything I will ever want to read is available in the public library. If they don't have it, they will order it for me from the National Library, which has millions of books. I read the book, I take it back. If I want to read it again, I go and borrow it again.
MrsCurious · 26-30, F
Yes and collect them late fees and forget about returning it after your done reading them all @slobound
slobound · 46-50, M
@helenS Sorry I should have started my statement with "my problem with libraries is.." Don't get me wrong, I love them and love books however I am one to collect things and books are pretty much my favorite things. I support our local library and always partake when they do book sales.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@helenS The library is my second home no matter where I live. I always get a library card as soon as my change of address mailing arrives, even before I transfer my driver's license.
helenS · 36-40, F
@NativeOregonian There is a very nice gentleman I met some time ago, and when I asked him where he lives, he said "The city library is my living room."
That could have been you, apparently. 😁
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@helenS I have a kindle and have collected over 20,000 titles since March 2012. I also have the Aldiko app, and have over 5,000 titles for that. I subscribe to free and discounted title email services, like Bookbub, Freebooksy, Bargain Booksy, eReader News Today, Early Bird Books, as well as free domain services like Gutenberg Project and Internet Archives.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@helenS Sounds like something I would say ☺️
helenS · 36-40, F
@NativeOregonian The Internet Archives need your financial support. Please try to help if you can.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@helenS As well as the Gutenberg Project.
helenS · 36-40, F
@NativeOregonian Both are excellent sources, especially for older books.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@helenS And the only sites where one can find extremely rare titles that are public domain.
helenS · 36-40, F
@NativeOregonian ... even very old books, from the 18th century.
Many people think these old books are outdated and obsolete. But the opposite is true. Very often they are more modern and contemporary than recent books.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@helenS I completely agree 100%. When people realize that others actually lived those events in real time as they were actually happening, history becomes fascinating.
helenS · 36-40, F
@NativeOregonian For example, Alexis de Tocqueville's book "Democracy in America" was published in 1835, we have a copy in our library, and when I studied the book I thought "This has been written for us, today!"
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@helenS The only thinga that changes through time is technology and medicine.
MrsCurious · 26-30, F
That’s a lot of library cards lol @NativeOregonian
