West Side Story..is it live? I've seen the movie, and my sister used to have the album, and I saw it done once on television live.

@MaryJanine No, I wouldn't be interested if it were a play...I'm a bit of a purist...it's the 1961 movie. Well done for that time. Addressing racism

I think it was, too. The funny thing was...the original story was done on stage as a play BEFORE the movie was developed and came out. I remember seeing that somewhere - probably it was TV Guide.

But I also agree with you about being a "purist" when it comes to the movie version. No one can beat Natalie Wood and George Charkaris, or Rita Moreno, in their respective roles.

@MaryJanine I had no idea it was a play first. Rita is my favorite character in the movie

You did know she won the Oscar for that movie, didn't you? I think she richly deserved it. And she is still active today. I believe that, by the time she goes to her reward, she will be missed by many people who have viewed her in "West Side Story" - and in whatever else she chooses to do.

A side bar to this subject - I had a teacher whose first name was Maria. She told her class one time, "I used to hate my first name because I thought it was so foreign sounding - until I saw 'West Side Story'."

@MaryJanine No, I didn't know she won the Oscar...well deserved. That's a good story about your teacher. That movie had a major impact on many people

Including you and me both.
