Die Zweite Heimat (The Second Heimat) - Edgar Reitz, is like 13 movies, and is rising swiftly as i finally get around to completing it at long last, it's not as good as Fassbinder's Berlin Alexanferplatz however.
Also high up - Fruit of Paradise - Vera Chytilova and The Color of Pomegranates - Sergei Paradjanov.
In the giallo genre i love - The Perfume of the Lady in Black, Blood and Black Lace and What Have You Done to Solange.
Any summary is incomplete without mentioning 2 of the best bleak films i've seen - Germany, Year Zero - Roberto Rossellini, and The Seventh Continent - Michael Haneke.
