TWD: What were the writers thinking by fast forwarding 7 years later and not killing off Rick Grimes?

I miss Carl. We watched the kid grow up :( @MethDozer

@Keepitsimple I didn't like what the writers made him into to be honest. They started making him tough then changed him.
Be honest as the show went on I grew to dislike the entire Grimes family. Lori was the worst by far.

Plus the show and story needs to have main characters killed off. Honestly I am starting to want to see Darrel go.

@MethDozer @Keepitsimple I miss Carl too. He was on the show from the beginning. I honestly don't think they should've killed off Simone that quickly.

I didn’t like Lori or Andrea personally so that was no loss. They have so many storylines going and they kind of go astray with the characters and developing them, look at Daryl...they turned him into a pussy cat. @MethDozer

I agree, I sort of liked his character but really there was not much more they could do with him and Dwayne is gone.@Synyster

@Synyster I agree on Simone. I don't get the staff. They always kill or end their most interesting and dynamic characters and sweep through their most interesting story arcs. The love to waste focus on those long montages though to show how emotional their main characters are. Love wasting 15 minutes in an episode to show how much Baby Judith makes Michone and the others smile.🙄

@Keepitsimple Do you mean Dwight? I liked him and I think you'll see him comeback.

@Keepitsimple I wouldn't say Daryl is a full one pussy but they changed him into something to far from the original character to become. I don't know, I kinda started to think Kirkman and the writers confuse character development with just completely changing the character. They could have done a lot with the Simon character if they chose to use him.

Out of all the dead characters I wish Dale had a longer running.

You and I think similar..I liked Dale too :( I agree about the character development. Too much going on that the characters paths are not being developed. They have so much story to tell that even going over the hour doesn’t help so one or the other suffers. @MethDozer

@Keepitsimple I started liking the spin-off series better. The story arcs are more complex and the characters have more depth and growth.

My main critique is the big characters in the main series tend to be too weak to suspend the belief they made it this far. Seriously, who would still have followed Rick at this point? He's consistently making the wrong decisions and is way too lucky. The whole final battle with the Saviours where somehow Eugene perfectly hotloads all their ammo to perfectly destroy their weapons en masse was just too much and too silly.

I watch FWD also, lol. I’d have probably gone after Negan at the end myself, and I’m sure a lot of the people in the real life but for storyline purposes they kept him alive. As for Eugene, his character has been lagging. If they wrote him off I don’t think he would be missed unfortunately. :( @MethDozer
