Who is (or was) your favorite late night talk show host?

I was lucky to catch Johnny Carson before he retired, I liked him, but didn't love him. I enjoy Conan O'Brien, he's the only one I can tolerate.

I'd say Conan was a good replacement for Carson. Even though no one can replace Carson, obviously. He was a man of his time. I also think Joan Rivers did great with her stint as a late night host as well.

How exactly did you catch him before he retired? At most you were 1?

My parents recording it via vhs and grainy camcorder. They insisted I watch to see what, "real late night" was like. And the network released vhs of his greatest shows a year or two after he retired.
