Also, I think the TV show, "Bosom Buddies" is worth mentioning.

@Byron8by7 It was a funny show. Peter Scolari went on to do the Newhart show, but never did as well as Hanks did.

Yes, I think Scolari was very good. Funny how some performers go so far, and others don't.

@Byron8by7 Makes one wonder is it talent or luck. Always helps if they know the right person in the movie business.

I think it must be a combination of talent, luck, fate, destiny, and being in the right place at the right time, and probably some other variable(s).

@JustLikeGreta Talent, luck and how hard you want to work. The reason I say this is Joan Blondell said she could have been as good as Bette Davis but didn't work hard enough. They were in the same class in the early 1930's. Joan did very well until the 40's but didn't push herself and Bette was so-so in the 30's but excelled in later years.
Tom Hanks has the talent and probably works on his craft as well.
