@GingerPeach, the first time I got to see the Flintstones in color was a treat!
@Peapod Yes, and the World of Disney too.

Ten...still remember watching Speed Racer and Grizzly Adams in color and being amazed...when I was little I never understood why when the man said "The following program is being brought to you in living color on NBC", it never worked.
@touchofgray I remember how excited I was when we could watch shows in color.

@GingerPeach, same here! Even as an adult, I was blown away to see some of my old favorite cartoons in color.

I think I was actually 19 years old when we finally got a color TV. They were such a luxury at one time.
@Peapod Yes they were.

@GingerPeach, well off people had those big console TVs with color. Oh my. It was fun visiting and getting a chance to tinker with the settings. I thought it was a riot to make the TV anchor man green. OK...I was young. It didn't take much to entertain me.

I didn't buy one until I was out of college, but my parents had one when I was a kid.
@MistyCee How old were you when your parents got one?
@GingerPeach Hmm... That's a good question. Probably pretty young. They had black and white TVs all over the house, but just one big color console TV in the den, since... I don't know, actually. I do remember my grandmother had a color TV when I was like 3 or 4. She used to watch Game shows, and the color was always off on it. There was a knob for color balance, but it never worked right.
@MistyCee I remember when the TV got old the picture would be green.

Uhh...I was in grade school. Maybe around 8 or 9. Girl I can't remember THAT far back! LOL 🤣
@SuperA You mean they had TVs when you were a kid? LOL
SuperA · 70-79, F
🤣 Now you sound like my grandkids. They asked me if I went to school like they had in "Little House on the Prarie"! Lol
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
Probably about 13
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@GingerPeach you must have got you're earlier than me !! Lol
@TheWildEcho My dad got it on my 13th birthday, but he really wanted it for the whole family and so he could watch Bonanza in color.
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
@TheWildEcho I remember watching football in b&w, red and blue were the same shade of grey
antonioio · 70-79, M

We were among the first in our neighborhood to get one, mid-60s. It was a small screen, in my parents’ room, so watching it was a treat. We kids usually watched the B&W downstairs in the family room.
@bijouxbroussard We got ours in 63 and started eating our meals on TV trays so we didn't have to miss our shows.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@bijouxbroussardooooh, I would have envied you and Ginger in the day. I don't know why were like the last to get a color TV. My dad worked for GE and could get discounts on appliances.
Sroonaka616 · 31-35, M
I always had one. The joys of being born in the 90s.
I was 7 when my parents first got one. But I got my own when I left home at age 21.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Always had one, with a few BW portables and smaller ones scattered around.
