R2D2 has died

Kenny Baker who played R2D2 in the Star Wars movies has died age 82 - thats an old droid

Apparently he was also playing R2D2 in the prequels which I find strange because technology is improved by then so they do not need somebody inside making R2 work.

Anybody know if the new droid thats like a ball is remote - CGI or somebody inside like R2D2 had
