Movie Suggestion: Beatriz at Dinner

We always talk about contemporary USA here (No 'murican, not America, don't be dumb, America is a continent not a country. Or when you talk about America are you referring to Uruguay? You don't even know the existence of Urugay, dumb you).

So, thanks to a post about it by @Picklebobble2 while talking about it in another topic, I want to suggest you a film I watched recently, it's a nice film but it offers a partly interpretation of social class, immigration and other interesting cues about contemporary USA.

The movie is Beatriz at Dinner with Salma Haiek and others.

Well I haven't seen the movie, but the whole 'America is a continent' approach is pretty silly. If a person doesn't know that North and South America are continents and not countries , then they shouldn't even engage in conversations other those needed for practicality. Pointing out that America isn't a country is like using a typing error to refute someone's argument. It's a grade school move. 'America' has long been used interchangeably with 'the United States', and tough beans on anyone who doesn't like it!

@puck61 Your point is silly. American was used to indicate USA only by USA people, which is selfish and ignorant imho.

Ask to a Mexican, a Brazilian or an Euorpean person (like I am) what America is. I often see Central and South American people offended by this USA people attitude, 'murican thinks they are at the centre of the world, while they're just a such a young nation, with a very small history.

Anyway I liked the film.
"American was used to indicate USA only by USA people,"

That is one of the biggest non truths I have seen in eleven years of EP and SW! How can you say something so ridiculous and not expect a reaction?
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@puck61 Yeah ok, if you want to live on your fairy world, USA is everything, the most important, everything is USA you're free to do it.
America is a continent, despite of bullshit.
It's funny cause a couple of days ago I wanted to open a topic about this selfish dumbness of you muricans, and a topic based on a movie it's turning to something else.

@puck61 Not so Puck
Most in my experience are not that astute and refer to the US as America
It annoys Canadians and Mexicans
@Sharky86 Thanks for the 'nationalist dumbass' comment on your other post by the way! I'm flattered!
@SW-User Not so Literaturegirl.
People all over the world refer to US citizens as "Americans" all the time!

Do you expect people to start calling us 'United Statsians'? Please think reasonably, and not adversarial.
SW-User
@puck61 You mean agred with you? Feel free to block
@Sharky86 PS. I'm sure it's a good movie. I'm just stating a simple fact, and opposing a misconception.
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@puck61 So we don't agree. The movie is interesting more than good, imho. I mean it's also well done.
@SW-User No need for escalation. I'm simply pointing out where you are in error. It's a clear and obvious truth that we are not referred to as 'United Statsians' but rather Americans. I would bet that Americans were probably not even the first people to call themselves "Americans"! We are commonly called "Americans" all over the world all the time, and the US is referred to as "America" all over the world all the time! It's as true as the sunrise in the east. If you posted that the sun rose in the west, I would comment on that too!
Sharky86 · 36-40, M
@puck61 'United Statsians' yeah, why not, actually in my language you're called STATUNITENSI not AMERICANI, and also many other languages has a similar word for United States people.
SW-User
@puck61 You know it all
I prefer people who are able to discuss and consider ideas
Have you been all over the world? I doubt it
@SW-User I've been to Germany, Mexico, Canada, and Guatemala, and I am very well educated. People do not call us "United Statsians" We are referred to as "Americans" and this country is referred to as America .
Arguing that is beyond ludicrous.
@SW-User You're words are not coming from a rational place but an adversarial place. You really should have enough humility to realize that and enhance your logic.
SW-User
@puck61 Did you listen to anyone?
A smug knowitall
You shut down discussion rather than open it
Well educated? No
SW-User
@puck61 As said you're a smug knowitall
I suspect you're high right now
@SW-User Well, that's an inaccurate assessment, and another adversarial comment that is below you.
