Yup. I could see the Empire calling it an advance mining platform or something like that. And then along came these uppity rebels, blowing it up, killing thousands, and trying to strangle our empire of need resources!

@Xuan12 Jedda was classed as a "Mining Disaster" as well.
Oh, and it was hundreds of thousands...either way the attack had two effects on the galaxies population...for those who hate The Empire it proved they were beatable...for those loyal? It showed them that The Rebel Alliance were traitors and murderers.

@Fangirlsarah1996 Blowing up the Death Star was good and all. But the Empire still had most of it's fleets right? Still a lot of conventional military power.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@Xuan12 Agreed, The Empire was still a military juggernaut...a top heavy one with barely any funding, but a juggernaut none the less.
Xuan12 · 36-40, M
@Fangirlsarah1996 It kind of has to be top heavy though. How else to you keep such a vast empire together. Even infighting in a single nation here on Earth can cripple a nation. So much the more with a galactic empire. That's probably why they favor such a centralized command structure.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@Xuan12 The Galactic Empire ruled through fear...it was the only reason they needed such a large navy.
They oppressed their citizens that much that a galactic civil erupted, causing them to lose the galaxy at large.
The Republic before them ruled the galaxy for centuries, yet they had no real navy to speak of.

@Fangirlsarah1996 Space politics presents a very strange political picture. Especially depending on how people are able to travel. I looked it up, and an Imperial Star Destroyer travels at about 2.2million times the speed of light. So it can make the trip across a typical 100,000 light year galaxy in a little more than 2 weeks. That's plenty fast enough to treat the entire galaxy as one cohesive unit. So we avoid the pitfalls of having hundreds or thousands of years of travel time, which would make running an empire of that scale almost impossible. But I also just realized that the Death Star was completely unnecessary, because at those kinds of speeds you can just ram an unmanned probe into a planet at high speed to blow up the whole thing. Huh...the more you know. 🌠

@Xuan12 The Empire liked "Shows of force"
They didn't have that many patrols for their massive navy, they prefer just kind of putting an ISD (Imperial Star Destroyer) over a planet and having it stay there.

@Fangirlsarah1996 Hmm...whatever energy source the Death Star was using was probably so energy dense, that Skywalker should be dead too. lol. Real world physics in sci-fi. Hey, did you notice in the newest movie that they have a strange new preoccupation with light speed? They kept saying it in regards to how fast they can go. I thought that was pretty weird, considering that their ships do actually travel considerably faster than that.
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@Xuan12 Kyber Crystals...they aren't dense, just VERY good conductors (Hint, it's the same thing used in the creation of Jedi and Sith Lightsabers)
Yes I agree, mainly because they don't "actually" go at light speed, they go into Hyperspace, which gets them places faster but it's more akin to Slipspace (Halo) they go to a different dimension which allows for faster transit speeds through the galaxy.
And no, nobody knows anything about Hyperspace.

@Fangirlsarah1996 They must know something, like that it has a higher speed limit at least. But what I meant was energy dense. Where ever all that power comes from is incredibly energy dense. Releasing it all, or even part of it, in an explosion probably would have destroyed Endor, the planet, maybe the next planet over too. Same with Star Killer base. At any rate, I'd like to recommend a new path for the 1st Order...the conquest of Hyperspace! lol
Fangirlsarah1996 · 26-30, F
@Xuan12 Oh it does have higher speed limits, they're limited by ship power to weight ratios however.
The Falcon for example is a re purposed cargo ship, so it has a lot of torque compared to most ships, plenty of retooling by Han makes it one of if not the fastest ship in the known galaxy.
But things like ISD's take a lot more to shift.
But no, Kyber Crystals are simply a way of amplifying energy, lightsabers work on the same principle, yet they do not explode when broken.
Starkiller Base however does not use Kyber Crystals, it used energy taken directly from stars, that's why it went "Supernova"

@Fangirlsarah1996 It's still coming from somewhere. You put 1amp into a kyber crystal and it spits out 6amps, it got the other 5 from somewhere. And yeah, the MF could make the same trip that takes an ISD 16 days in about 4 days.
